Privacy Policy
Last updated 29 October 2026 · Effective 29 October 2026This policy explains what Fluento collects, why, who else sees it, and what you can do about it. Fluento is operated by Orvion Technologies, a sole proprietorship registered in Delhi, India ("we", "us"). It applies to the Fluento mobile app and this website.
The short version. We collect your email, the profile you set during onboarding, and what you produce while practising — voice recordings, transcripts, answers and scores. Your recordings go to speech and AI providers to be transcribed and analysed. We do not sell your data and we do not run advertising in Fluento. You can export or delete everything from inside the app.
1. What we collect
| Category | What it is | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|
| Account | Email address, and a name if you give one. A sign-in identifier from Google or Apple if you sign in that way. | You, at sign-up |
| Learning profile | Your first language, the language you want explanations in, your daily goal, your chosen coach and voice, your self-reported confidence and focus areas. | You, during onboarding and in Profile |
| Practice content | Voice recordings you make, their transcripts, text you type, multiple-choice answers, and the corrections, scores and reports produced from them. | You, while using the app |
| Progress | Your streak, practice days, practice time, estimated level, Mistake Bank entries and saved words. | Derived from your use |
| Technical | App version, device type and operating system, and error reports when something crashes. | Your device |
| Subscription | Whether you are on free, trial or Plus, and when a trial started. Purchases are processed by Apple or Google. | You and the app stores |
What we do not collect: we do not ask for your card or bank details — Apple and Google handle payment and we never see those numbers. We do not collect your contacts, photos, precise location, or anything from other apps on your device. We do not use advertising identifiers and Fluento shows no ads.
2. Why we collect it
- To run the product you asked for. Transcribing what you said, generating a coach reply, scoring your pronunciation, writing your report — each needs the content you produced.
- To keep your progress. Your level, streak and Mistake Bank only mean anything if we store them against your account.
- To enforce free and paid limits. Daily usage counts per feature.
- To fix faults. Crash and error reports.
- To answer you. If you email support, we keep that correspondence.
For users in India, our legal basis is your consent under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, given when you create an account and when you grant microphone access. Where the UK or EU GDPR applies, we rely on performance of our contract with you for the processing needed to deliver the app, your consent for microphone access and voice processing, and our legitimate interests for security and fault diagnosis.
3. Voice recordings, in detail
Fluento is a speaking app, so this deserves its own section.
- The microphone is used only while you are actively recording in a feature that needs it — a conversation turn, a roleplay turn, an English Mirror recording, a pronunciation take, a Daily Challenge, a spoken answer in the assessment or in review. It is not listening at other times.
- Recording starts when you tap the mic and stops when you tap stop, when the feature's time limit is reached, or when you pause — pausing stops the microphone, not just the timer.
- The recording is written to your device, then uploaded over an encrypted connection to our backend, which passes it to the speech and AI providers listed below so it can be transcribed, scored or analysed.
- The transcript and the resulting report are stored with your account. The audio itself is deleted from our backend once processing is complete and is not retained as a library of your voice.
- We do not use your recordings to train our own models, and our providers' API terms state that content submitted through their APIs is not used to train their models.
4. Who else processes your data
We use third-party processors to deliver specific parts of Fluento. Each receives only what that job needs.
| Processor | What it does | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| Clerk | Sign-in and account management | Email, sign-in identifiers, session data |
| OpenRouter, and the model providers it routes to (including Google and Meta models) | Generates coach replies and corrections | Your conversation transcript and learning profile |
| OpenAI | Speech-to-text, and session reports | Your recording or transcript |
| Anthropic | Session and fluency reports for Plus subscribers | Your transcript |
| AssemblyAI | Scored transcription for fluency and filler analysis | Your recording |
| Microsoft Azure (Speech) | The coach's voice, and pronunciation scoring | Text to be spoken; your recording for scoring |
| Replit | Hosts our backend | Data in transit and short-lived processing |
| Apple, Google | App distribution, subscriptions, push notifications | Purchase and device data they collect directly |
We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it with anyone for their own marketing. We may disclose data if we are legally required to, or to protect the rights and safety of our users or ourselves.
5. How long we keep it
- Account and progress data: for as long as your account exists.
- Voice recordings: deleted from our systems once the transcript or report is produced.
- Transcripts, reports, corrections and saved words: kept with your account so your history and review queue work, until you delete them or your account.
- Crash and error logs: up to 90 days.
- Support email: up to 24 months.
- After you delete your account we remove your personal data from our live systems promptly and from backups within 30 days, except where we must keep something to meet a legal obligation.
6. Your rights
You can, at any time:
- See and export your data — Profile → Export my data produces a file of your profile, progress, Mistake Bank, saved words and activity.
- Correct it — your profile, coach, language and goal are editable in Profile.
- Delete it — Profile → Delete account. See the deletion page for exactly what goes.
- Withdraw consent — revoke microphone access in your device settings, or stop using the app. The speaking features will not work without the microphone.
- Turn off notifications — in Profile, or in your device settings.
- Complain — write to us first (below). In India you may also complain to the Data Protection Board. In the UK or EU you may complain to your supervisory authority.
7. Children
Fluento is intended for people aged 18 and over and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has created an account, email us and we will remove it.
8. Security
Traffic between the app, our backend and our processors is encrypted in transit. API keys for the AI services live only on our backend and are never shipped inside the app, so your sessions cannot be intercepted through it. Access to production systems is limited to the people who need it. No system is perfectly secure, and we will tell affected users and the relevant authority if a breach puts your data at risk.
9. International transfers
We are based in India. Some of our processors operate servers outside India, so your data may be processed abroad. Where that happens we rely on the processor's contractual data-protection commitments, including standard contractual clauses where applicable.
10. Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top, and for a significant change we will tell you in the app before it takes effect.
